Brushing teeth is not just a habit. It’s a special procedure. Routine often leads to carelessness and even negligence, and hence there is only a step to tooth decay and gum disease. There are a few mistakes that we do when we brush our teeth:
Error 1: Do not use the right toothbrush
When choosing a toothbrush, take into account the size of your mouth. If you push to open it wide enough to insert the brush, then perhaps it is too large. The objective is to your comfort. Which brush is better electric or normal? Experts say this is a matter of personal preference. Proper brushing does not depend so much on the type of brush, but on the one who uses it.
Error 2: Your brush is not with the correct thread
Some brushes are with angled thread – some are with straight. Which are better? According to dentists, it is irrelevant. More important is the technique of brushing, not the way the hairs are located.
Error 3: You don’t brush your teeth often enough or long enough
Gently brush your teeth at least 2 times a day. If you do it 3 times it is even better. If there is too much time between each brushing, bacterial plaque accumulates and increases the risk of inflammation. Brushing should last at least 2 minutes, but even better 3.
Error 4: brushing your teeth too often or too hard
If you brush your teeth 3 times a day is perfect, but if you brish them more, it can now be a problem. More than 4 times per day is far too much. Excessive brushing can irritate the tooth root, which often causes irritation to gums. Too vigorous brushing can damage tooth enamel.
Error 5: You don’t brush your teeth properly
Gently brush up and down your teeth, not across. Friction must be vertical, not horizontal. Be sure to clean both the outer and inner tooth surface, and your tongue.
Error 6: To start from the same place every time
Many people begin to brush their teeth from the same place in their mouth again and again. Start from different places. Until you reach the last sector of your mouth, you’re already bored. Therefore you get stuck in one area, but it is not desirable.
Error 7: Miss the inner surface of the teeth
Most people forget to clean the inner surface of teeth – where the tongue touches them. Plaque, you cannot see is equally important to be removed. Most often missed zone is the inner surface of front teeth.
Error 8: You don’t rinse your toothbrush after use
Bacteria multiply on not-rinsed toothbrush and the next time you brush your teeth, actually you put back the old bacteria in your mouth. Rinse the brush after use!
Error 9: You don’t leave the brush to dry
If you have a brush that is constantly wet, it will breed more bacteria. If hairs remain wet, they’ll also spoil faster. So do not forget to dry your brush.
Error 10: You don’t change your brush often enough
Dentists recommend that you buy a new toothbrush every 3-4 months or even more often. Instead of following strict time limits, it is best to watch the condition of your brush.
